Volunteer: MLK Jr. Volunteer Workday at RiverLands Gateway Park with Trust for Public Land

01/18/2025 10:00 AM - 01:00 PM ET

Summary

Join Birds Georgia and the Trust for Public Land for a volunteer workday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service.

Description

Join Birds Georgia and the Trust for Public Land in honoring MLK Jr. Day of Service by helping to restore native bird habitat along the Chattahoochee RiverLands! Together, we’ll remove invasive plant species and support the transformation of RiverLands Gateway Park into a vibrant natural space for both people and wildlife. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on the local environment and community.

About RiverLands Gateway Park
Set to open in 2026, RiverLands Gateway Park will serve as a regional trailhead for the RiverLands Greenway and Mableton Parkway Greenway trails. This park will also provide much-needed public access to the Chattahoochee River with a kayak launch and boat ramp, creating opportunities for recreation and connecting people to nature.

What to Expect
We will have two groups working on either end of the park:

  • Group 1: Focused on easier-to-manage invasive species.
  • Group 2: Venturing into the woods to tackle privet and other woody invasives.

Work will be supervised by Birds Georgia staff, and your efforts will directly contribute to habitat restoration for native birds and other wildlife.

What to Bring

  • Water
  • Dress for the weather and the work; you may encounter poison ivy, insects, and arachnids.
  • Close-toed shoes (boots recommended)
  • Recommended but not required: sunglasses and binoculars

Join us in this meaningful day of service to help restore the beauty and biodiversity of RiverLands Gateway Park!
